DR. MICHAEL ROESSLER: The porcelain veneers have been around for probably about 30 years now. And what they actually are, are thin pieces of porcelain that when fixed to--by themselves are very, very weak. But when they're fixed to the teeth, they're very, very strong. They can be used for a number of reasons, to change a person's smile, to improve their smile. If you have, let's say, a space that's in between your teeth and you want to close, if you've got a slight amount of crowding to your teeth that you can actually do a little mini-orthodontics with the veneers to change that.

And probably the biggest reason is if a patient has discolored teeth, for instance, like tetracycline-stained teeth, that you can actually cover up that stained teeth and just make it just a lot more aesthetically pleasing. And they work great and use them quite a bit in my practice to change people's smiles. And people love them.
